Philosophy

It is the philosophy of UCC that children be encouraged to learn and grow in a safe and nurturing environment. By providing a foundation of developmentally appropriate experiences every day, we maximize the inquisitiveness and knowledge that takes root.

We believe that each child is a unique individual and that all children can learn. Our infant, toddler, preschool, and school age programs provide inclusive settings that recognize children's varied abilities, interests, needs, and learning styles.

We believe children comprehend best through meaningful play. Our play-based, child-centric program reflects the integration of physical activity, cognitive engagement, social interactions, emotional support, and language development. Meaningful play encourages curiosity, discovery and problem solving. It’s where the seeds of a positive self-image and self-empowerment are planted, where we carefully address the total development of the child in their most impressionable years.

We recognize that parents are the child's first teachers. Children learn best when parents are involved in their educational program. The primary bridge between home and school is the incorporation of family and community, and that is why UCC places so much focus on building critical intellectual, emotional and physical connections in the child’s daily life. These lessons form a strong foundation for a child’s future to be built upon.

The statement and beliefs in this philosophy reflect the position of The University Child Care of Chicago. They define why our amazing program can help make your child shine brightly.

University Childcare follows the standards that have been set by by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).  Other distinctions of our first three locations are the Governor’s Award of Excellence and the ExceleRate Illinois Gold Rating.
